I am very overweight and have very palid skin because I have been ill for very long time. I go on holiday to Egypt to recuperate.
But all the time Egyptian men are bothering me in the street and pretending to like me, and want to marry me, sleep with me and other inappropiate questions.
Why do they insult me so much???? I am not stupid I KNOW that I am not some beautiful young girl who people fall in love with on looking. I am overweight , disabled 30 year old.
Why insuate that I am a moron that will be taken advantage of for visa, or that I am a lose woman who will sleep with anything??
It makes me feel so worse when these men do this to me, like I am so ugly that I will fall for anything. Why not realise that just because a women is Western that doesn’t mean that she has no self respect.

such people are everywhere hun, not mainly in Egypt.

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing this while you’re trying to get better. If I were to put in your situation, I guess the best way I could do is to ignore those type of people and not pay attention at all. The more you get mad and show how annoyed you are, the more they will keep doing it. I know it’s hard to pretend not to hear them or pretend you don’t understand their gestures but keeping a neutral face will eventually make them go away. Hope you’ll get better….
Believe my i hear the meanest words while walking in Cairo streets , though i am Egyptian! but i don’t care , if u get bothered or tried to bash him , he will know that this annoys u and will repeat it
May be they watch western porn movies and believe that every European lady is easy to get and would like to jump into the bed with a tanned man , as they watch and try to imitate!

and if anyone tried to molest u again raise ur voice , slap him , they r cowards and will run away , especially if u r in a crowd or surrounded by ur own people!
I had this type of experience before and when i slapped him , he ran away like a freak! “he tried to touch me”
When I first came to Egypt the attitude and verbal comments of some men in particular the young bored males, would really infuriate me.
I tried telling them to shut up go away etc etc.In English and in Arabic but nothing that I said seemed to deter them.
Then my Egyptian partner told me to walk over to them, look them straight in the eye and say,”Would you like it if someone spoke like that to your sister or mother?”
I found it not only shut them up, but whenever I would pass them on the way to catch the ferry home they would all look the other way.
I have never seen a bunch of would be rams turn in to lambs so quickly.
1) Egyptians don’t always have much freedom to date, and they need to be very serious, such as emeting the parents before going out. they don’t know women well.
2) misleading from TV. they saw the “Sex and the city” “Deseparte housewife”. they think lots of women are like that, but it is not the case. msot people never visit the western countries, and think it is the part of the reality. so, lots of people have misconccept about USA as well.
3) getting married to change their situation is very common. such as americans take so much Russians, Mexicans.. they even have a web site to buy a wife. it is reality how people from poor country do. my old maid is 25 years old and get married with 60 years old ugly man to be in USA. that is just how they are. i also saw a English woman open a shop for her man in Egypt too. i just think it is a business deal, and they get what they want.
4) i would not let them to bother me, and i would enjoy the Red sea as much as i can. you don’t need to deal with them with rest of your life, and who care what they say and do. jsut ignore them and be happy for yourself to be survivor.

You must learn that joking in the Egyptian society is like breathing for them. They cant spend a moment without telling a joke or hearing one. Believe me there is nothing which they cannot make a joke upon. They take anything related to joking for granted.
Its not about the western women, its about everybody, people here when they are in the street together feel v excited and when they see someone new they try to joke around with him and I say again anyone, even if you are a local person and even if he was a man.
You should get used to it or try to decrease the amount of time you spend in these areas or i suggest you ask your friend to get you a taxi driver under your control with a monthly salary, but remember, egyptians never mean anything in their jokes except having fun and if they knew that you got hurt from it they will stop doing it.

All boys who talks to girlsin a bad way on the streets are vulgar & low standared & have no morrals or self respect.

first of all , i am sure dear that you are not ugly , i am sure you are beautiful inside , trust your self and dont deny yourself your right to be happy , about being lose woman and would make love to any love , please dont blame egypt and egyptians , blame american media , tv shows and movies of course which pictures women as shameless and willing always to make love within the very first day and they are even proud of such women as they are always beautiful and succesfull , dont blame us for believing what we see on screens , also i find a filthy rich model or actress appear naked in a movie while she doesnt need the money , because that’s only if we consider poverty an excuse for women to work as strippers and hookers as shown in movies and all sympathy with her from the movie makers , so please dont be sad and i am really ashamed from the way my people treated you , hoping health and happiness
No one is ugly, some people have vision problem in their eyes and mind. Because beauty is not an absolute thing.
Those men in the street are simply “Street Men”, why do you care so much about those. They do the same whether with other people not only you.
But sorry to say that big part of the responsibility lies on you. You said you are smart, then simply allow strange men from stopping you in the street to talk to you.
Some males simply just don’t know how to act, have been repressed, or are simply trying to impress their other male buddies in a show of macho-ness.
The way a male catches my eye is simply being secure in himself and is intelligent and kind and not being a boastful jerk.

A lot of men in Middle East dont accept that a woman has rights, not to mention self respect. This is very deep thinking from your side for the simplistic mind of some Arab men.
Trully gentle arab men would never insult you or treat you unpolitely. The people you describe are Well Known Tourists Harpoons, looking for a way OUT of the country. VISA was the motive, no matter how you look or how old you are. They just want to escape the country. Its so simple and so silly. It might worked with you, it might not.
Stand up on your feet and pass the whole story to your “travelling experience” book, cause this what it worths.
