“Naked Skydiving,” local author, Jordan Schaffner,” nominated for the $ 10,000 Koret Book Award, will host a multi-media Egyptian Halloween Party and share nightmares with you featuring scary scenes from his autobiographical novel about the personal life of a dream interpreter,traveling through the west coast. Schaffner also encourages others to bring their nightmares on Halloween to share and to scare the crowd. The party will take place on October 31st at 9PM till the witching hour at the Egyptian Tea Room and Hookah Lounge, 4644 College Ave, San Diego, CA.

Schaffner bases “Naked Skydiving” on his personal experiences of helping others interpret their dreams and reads tarot cards.

The event will also include an open reading, belly dancers, videos of the last two remakes of “The Mummy” and “The Mummy Returns,” costumes, karaoke and dancing to such songs as “Walk Like an Egyptian,” Steve Martin’s “King Tut,” “the Purple People Eater,” and many others.

Schaffner has written “Naked Skydiving” as a cathartic way to find meaning in his own life, to transcend the mundane, to entertain readers, and empower their own creativity. “Naked Skydiving” pays homage to two of Schaffner’s favorite writers; Henry Miller and Kurt Vonnegut. Miller taught Schaffner how refreshing honesty and humor can be in literature, so he began to value the autobiographical novel, and fantasized about writing his own. Vonnegut taught Schaffner the art of short chapters for short attention spans. “Naked Skydiving” is also inspired by nature’s beauty, and the great myths of the world, including the Egyptian.

“When I was on my way home from an open mike night at Hot Monkey Love Cafe, I couldn’t help but keep noticing this orange roofed building called the Egyptian Tea Room and Hookah Lounge. I went to their Friday night open reading,and when I walked in, it was quite whimsical with Egyptian items on the menu, and sphinxes as well as other Egyptian decor. Even the ‘graphitti’ in the bathroom says funny things like ‘Cleopatra + Caesar.’ I walked out and met Harry the owner of the cafe and as I was ordering my meal, I got the idea for a booksigning and an Egyptian Halloween party. I showed him ‘Naked Skydiving’ and told him about my Egyptian Halloween idea. He liked it and immediately wanted to do it.”

Schaffner has had previous booksigning appearances at Borders in downtown San Diego, Hot Monkey Love Cafe, Ducky Waddles Emporium in Leucadia, and participated in a book fair for local authors at the San Diego Jewish Community Center. The Egyptian Halloween party will take place at the Egyptian Tea Room and Hookah Lounge, 4644 College Avenue & El Cajon Blvd. San Diego, CA from 9:00pm till the witching hour on Halloween, Oct 31.
