Whatever Else Happened to the Egyptians?: From the Revolution to the Age of Globalization

Whatever Else Happened to the Egyptians?: From the Revolution to the Age of Globalization

At the time of the Egyptian Revolution in 1952, the population of Egypt was around 22 million. At the end of 2002, it stood at 69 million, and was growing at a rate of 1.33 million a year. What happens to a society that grows so quickly, when the habitable and cultivable land of the country is strictly limited? After the success of Whatever Happened to the Egyptians?, Galal Amin now takes a further bemused look at the changes that have taken place in Egyptian society over the past half century, this time considering the disruptions brought about by the surge in population. Basing his arguments on both academic research and his own personal experiences and impressions, and employing the same light humor and keen sense of empathy as in his earlier work, the author discusses how runaway population growth has not only profound effects on many aspects of society – from love and fashion to telephones, the supermarket, and religion – but also predictable effects on the economy.

Q&A: How do the Israelis feel about the radical change from Egypt under President Mubarak?

Question by : How do the Israelis feel about the radical change from Egypt under President Mubarak?
How do the Israelis feel about the radical change from Egypt under President Mubarak to a new Egyptian government?

Best answer:

Answer by Kevin K
They are scared about the possibility that the 30 year peace treaty between them could come to an end. There is a very strong Anti-Israel sentiment in the region because Israel has caused much death and destruction in the neighboring countries. Mubarak only made this peace because America told him to, and gave him ALOT of money to stay friendly. I am not in favor of war at all, but honestly, Israel has whatever retaliation occurs coming to them.

Should Gaza switch from the shekel to the Egyptian pound?

Question by Bosco: Should Gaza switch from the shekel to the Egyptian pound?
They’re having a currency crisis, because the shekel is unstable and in any event it hardly behooves them to be using enemy currency. Some experts think they should use Egyptian until they have enough government revenue to launch their own currency. What are your opinions?

I think they should make every effort to disengage from the zionist economy. However, switching to Egyptian currency could be the first fatal step toward being absorbed by Egypt. My feeling is they should straggle along with U.S. currency until they are able to establish their own.

Q&A: How do you remove wrinkles from Egyptian Cotton Sheets?

Question by phonecardlady: How do you remove wrinkles from Egyptian Cotton Sheets?
I have 300 ct egyptian cotton sheets. They are great except the wrinkles at the top portion on the sheet. I have tried to iron them immediately upon removal from the dryer. I’ve also tried to iron the top portion while they were still wet. I’ve tried ironing them with and without steam at the highest setting possible.

I have the same edging on the pillow cases and there are no wrinkles in either one – just the flat sheet. Some people think I’m crazy, but I’m not. I want my bed to look nice, but I’m not going for the ‘Martha Stewart’ look. Any suggestions??
