How hard is it for someone to visit the US from Egypt?

Question by ms.rika_0118: How hard is it for someone to visit the US from Egypt?
I have a friend that would like to visit the US from Egypt. He as filed papers for permanent citizenship and has been waiting since 1998 (is this normal?). Would it be possible for him to visit while he is waiting for this paperwork to go through? if so How? His parents and one brother already live in the US. He says it is very difficult for him to visit, why is this so? Is it possible for him to get the visitors visa and how long would that take?

I am very dumb in this subject and process so please explain fully! Thanks in advance for your answers!

you would need to file for a tourist visa … takes 6-8 weeks normally… it will give him 6 months time for visiting… also needs to call about his visa to see if they are missing information or need more information.. or what he can do to speed up the process of his visa.. i would visit their office or call … but the quickest way for him to come to the u.s.a. is to apply for a tourist visa… and wait for it in the mail…

How do I have page views on my blog from Cairo, Egypt if their internet is down?

Question by : How do I have page views on my blog from Cairo, Egypt if their internet is down?
I just have a small Christian blog that I just started on Jan. 7, 2011 and hadn’t had any views from Egypt before yesterday. Now I have a few hits from Cairo but I thought their internet is down. Most of my page views are from America, where I am located. It just seems odd to me.

Was the Story of Jesus Christ taken from an older Egyptian legend?

Question by DMC1027: Was the Story of Jesus Christ taken from an older Egyptian legend?
I am hearing from some sources that bits and peices of Jesus Christs story (virgin birth, death on cross, 12 apostles) were taken or could be traced back to older Egyptian (or other) mythology. Could this be true and if so, how close are the legends related, how come we dont hear much about this? What is the Catholic churches view on this? Please elaborate. Serious answers only, and preferably intelligent ones lol.

Reflections of Osiris: Lives from Ancient Egypt

Reflections of Osiris: Lives from Ancient Egypt

Spanning more than two millennia, Reflections of Osiris opens a small window into a timeless world, capturing the flavor of life in ancient Egypt through vivid profiles of eleven actual people and the god Osiris.
Some of the figures profiled here are famous. Ray discusses Imhotep, whom he calls “Egypt’s Leonardo”–the royal architect of the Step Pyramid, high priest of the sun cult, and a man of great medical skill. We meet Hatshepsut, a rare female Pharaoh, who had herself depicted as a male figure in temple scenes, ceremonial beard and all. Horemheb, who rose from local politician to general and finally to king. And the legendary magician, Pharaoh Nectanebo II, the greatest builder of temples. Equally intriguing are the lives of everyday Egyptians who are also resurrected here. There is Heqanakhte, a cantankerous peasant farmer who has problems with his sons–and they with their stepmother. And Petiese, a scribe whose petition to the authorities preserves a feud stretching back over generations. Most fascinating of all are the people of the Serapeum: a Greek recluse, his brother (a rootless adolescent and police informer), two temple dancers with financial difficulties, and a temple scribe. All of whom we come to know intimately–even their dreams. Last comes the god Osiris, judge of the netherworld, creator of the land of Egypt, before whom all would appear at the end of their lives.
Reflections of Osiris captures the full spectrum of life in ancient Egypt. With more than twenty halftones and several maps, this superb volume will fascinate anyone interested in an inside look at the great ancient civilization of the Nile.

Whatever Else Happened to the Egyptians?: From the Revolution to the Age of Globalization

Whatever Else Happened to the Egyptians?: From the Revolution to the Age of Globalization

At the time of the Egyptian Revolution in 1952, the population of Egypt was around 22 million. At the end of 2002, it stood at 69 million, and was growing at a rate of 1.33 million a year. What happens to a society that grows so quickly, when the habitable and cultivable land of the country is strictly limited? After the success of Whatever Happened to the Egyptians?, Galal Amin now takes a further bemused look at the changes that have taken place in Egyptian society over the past half century, this time considering the disruptions brought about by the surge in population. Basing his arguments on both academic research and his own personal experiences and impressions, and employing the same light humor and keen sense of empathy as in his earlier work, the author discusses how runaway population growth has not only profound effects on many aspects of society – from love and fashion to telephones, the supermarket, and religion – but also predictable effects on the economy.
