Q&A: Anyone know how to read ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs?
Question by : Anyone know how to read ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs?
I was wondering if anyone else knew how to read them. I just bought this book by Collier and Manley called “How to Read Egyptian Hieroglyphs.” It’s supposed to be a step by step guide so you can teach yourself. I’m excited to start learning, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions.

I know a friend who can, shes Egyptian though. Personally, I think learning to read Egyptian hieroglyphs is a good idea. A lot of people in today’s society do not care for such interests. Anyway, my suggestion is to maybe look at pictures of Egyptian hieroglyphs (after you’ve learned a bit) and see if you can read them. That way, you will get practice while you’re learning and it will stick to your memory better. Best of luck!!

I’m not sure that you mean events taking place in art, but some of the most impressive buildings and statues were created by Ramses II. He had an ego to match his family size (over 90 children), and built huge statues and temples (Abu Simh?) to commemorate his great feats, even when they didn’t really happen. Also, the Temple of Luxor would be a great place to look–for centuries pharoahs continued to add on their own personal temples to the gods at Luxor. The Pyramids are just a starting point.

The actual ancient egyptian word for it, I have no idea.
However, the ancient egyptians did not have books or see books like we know them today, with binding and covers and such. They used a type of paper called Papyrus paper, that was made from Papyrus reeds pounded together and formed into sheets of paper, which was then rolled into scrolls.

it’s a good idea
try paper mache…first get a small and long balloon…blow it up…then take newspaper and tear it into smaller pieces (what ever size you need)…then take some flour and put it in a bowl…pour some water in the bowl…mix it up(trial and error will get the right consistency)…then dip the paper in the water/flour mix and start wrapping it around the balloon…it should dry in a day or so,,,then you can paint it…
for the people you can use clay or laundry pins (ask your mother) for the base…or just use wound up newspaper…
the site below tells you how and gives you a link to mixture recipes…
