Games Board games, outside games, and painful games were the major categories of games that Ancient Egyptians played. Believe it or not we still play a lot of these games today. They played a form of hockey. They would use palm tree branches as sticks and a leather ball for a puck. Board games include Dogs and Jackals and Senet which was like snakes and ladders. Dogs and Jackals’ board was as big as a piece of furniture measuring 15 cm X 10 cm made of wood and ivory.
Egyptians liked to play games together. They played: dice, knuckle-bones and checkers.
Little children had toys like balls, dolls, animals and spinning tops. These were made out of wood and fabric. Older children liked shooting arrows at targets, wrestling and playing a game like piggy- back.
They loved music and played the harp, lute and flute. Dancers beat a small rattle called a sistra when they danced to the music.
