I planning on traveling to Cairo in may but I’ll be in the country of Egypt one month. Can you tell if it’s to hot their during may or not? Were your experiences of traveling to Egypt good or not ? And what could you recommend to see besides the pyramids?

May is a great time to go see Egypt as in Cairo the average temperature at that time is around 25-26 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Farenheit) so you get to have that “hot country” feeling without completely dying!

If you’re going to Cairo (I’m assuming) you should definitely check out the Pyramids, the Sphinx, and the Egyptian Museum to see King Tut and his treasure. Islamic Cairo is also worth going to and seeing and some of the mosques like Sayyidna al-Hussein. The Citadel is also a great place to see. Khan Al-Khalili is a great open air market to see! Coptic Cairo is also a neat place to see some of the oldest churches in the world and some of the practices of one of the oldest Christian sects. Nile cruises, Cairo Tower, belly dance shows, dining out, camel and horse back rides in the Sahara… trust me, the things to do in Cairo are essentially unlimited.

Most people have great experiences in Egypt. It really depends all on the traveller. If you’re expecting North American or European standards of service and order, remind yourself that its Africa/the Middle East and this is the best it gets! The people are mostly VERY welcoming and warm to tourists and travellers. Just a few tips,if you’re going to a mosque or church, dress accordingly. And if you’re planning on bringing a woman with you, try your best to have her covered up but since you’re a tourist the people there will understand. And don’t let people selling things deceive you, bargain for EVERYTHING. Other than that, you’ll have some of the most memorable times of your life in this beautiful country!! :) :)

    Hi there,

May is probably the ideal time to visit Egypt because although the weather will be great it wont’ be too hot. Probably late 70′s into early 80′s at mid-day but the evening will still be warm and very pleasant.

Apart from the Pyramids and Cairo you can travel down to Luxor by train or by air and stay for a few days at one of the excellent hotels situated right on the banks of the Nile. At Luxor you can visit Luxor Temple with it’s excellent Sound and Light Show. You can also easily book a trip across the Nile from Luxor to the West Bank and visit the world famous Valley of the Kings which houses the Tomb of Tutankahmun, the Boy King as well as the Valley of the Queens and the fantastic Temple of Hatshepsut. All this can be done in a morning before the real heat of the day makes it a bit too hot to enjoy properly.

You can also arrange a 4 night Nile Cruise that would take you down to the beautiful town of Aswan. You could easily book that locally or through a travel agent before you go. The cruise itself would allow you to visit some of the other fabulous temples and sites as you sail to Aswan. At Aswan you could visit Kitchener’s Island and the Unfinished Obelisk and then book a trip to the stunning temple at Abu Simbel.

After that you could continue your travels down to the Red Sea and stay for a few days at a beach side resort such as the excellent El Gouna which is also known as the “Venice of the Red Sea”.

Domestic air travel within Egypt is quite reasonable with Egyptair or you could travel by train down from Cairo to Luxor then sail down to Aswan. Private transfers can also be arranged locally but make sure you agree the costs before you travel.

Egypt is such a fabulous place to explore and May is probably one of the best months to go.

    Hope this helps?

    Colin

Throughout Egypt, days are commonly warm or hot, and nights are cool. Egypt has only two seasons: a mild winter from November to April and a hot summer from May to October. The only differences between the seasons are variations in daytime temperatures and changes in prevailing winds. In the coastal regions, temperatures range between an average minimum of 14° C in winter and an average maximum of 30° C in summer . May is Good time to Visit Egypt specially that temperature between 17 c to 25 c .. for more information about places you should visit please check this link : http://www.lonelyegypt.com
